Investing in crisis

Just a few thoughts on investing in the current financial situation. Most of this is targeted to people that have already liquidated their stock holdings or were waiting to get into the market. If you're already in stocks, you have a tough decision - is the bottom near or not. If we're at or near a bottom, your best bet is to hold out for a rebound. If we aren't near the bottom, you might want to take your losses and cash out to buy back in closer to the bottom. Long Term Foreign Investment in US Securities Drops

Net foreign acquisition of long-term securities is estimated to have been $53.2 billion in September, compared to $116.8 billion in August 2006. The seemingly large drop still leaves net foreign purchases well above the anemic July level of $32.9 billion.

Net Foreign Purchases of US Securities Drop More Than Half

The dollar got a double dose of bad news Monday with a big drop in foreign purchases of US securities in July and a second quarter increase in the current account deficit.

Foreign Private Investors Loading Up on US Securities

The Treasury Department reported today that net foreign purchases of long-term securities were $69.6 billion. Foreign official institutions, such as central banks, sold a net $1.4 billion, while private foreign investors purchased a net $90.2 billion for total net foreign purchases of $88.8 billion in US long-term domestic securities. U.S. residents purchased a net $19.2 billion in foreign securities.

Free Currency Trading Workshop

Forex Capital Markets LLC is putting on a currency trading workshop in New York City, June 3rd and 4th at the New York Hilton. They're billing the FXCM Currency Trading Expo as «The Currency Event of the Year». Some of the workshops require paid attendance, but the event itself is free with advance registration or $20 at the door and includes 50 free workshops put on by «22 Currency Superstars.» (There is also a long list of exhibitors, so, for those who are into currency trading, the schwag bag should rock.)
