The Week Ahead: Your Financial Road Map for May 8 to 12, 2006

Each of the upcoming financial items with the exception of Treasury auctions and announcements will be linked in this post as they become available. Housing market indicators will be featured on RealNews under the Housing Market category. Job market indicators wil be featured at Jobs Calling under the Job Market category. International indicators will be featured at Growing Global under the Economic Indicators category. General US economic indicators will be featured on this site, Financial Options, under Economic Indicators category.

The earnings releases listed are companies I've chosen because of their industries, because of market capitalization (the size of the company), because they have local plants in my area or for various other reasons of general interest. Please do not take these as a “recommendation” of any sort. That I list them here simply means that I think the results may be interesting for any number of reason - I may occasionally even choose companies where I expect negative results.

Monday: No indicators scheduled for release Monday.

Monday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Announcement; 1 PM Eastern 3-Month T-Bill Auction, 6-Month T-Bill Auction

Monday Earnings: Saxon Capital Inc [Ticker: SAX; Industry: REIT - Residential ] Saxon is a residential mortgage REIT, specializing in subprime loans and has sent a lot of defaulted properties my way in southwest Missouri over the past 6 or 7 years., zipRealty Inc [Ticker: ZIPR ; Industry: Real Estate Development ] zipRealty is a discount real estate broker which eliminates many of the services associated with traditional bricks and mortar in favor of a virtual office environment and pays kickbacks to buyers from the seller paid commission. The company has so far not turned a profit and isn't expected to.

Tuesday: Wholesale trade figures for March are due from the Commerce Department.

Tuesday Treasury Schedule: 11:30 AM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Auction; 1 PM Eastern 3-Year Note Auction

Tuesday Earnings: Walt Disney [Ticker: DIS ; Industry: Entertainment - Diversified ] $56 billion market cap. Kinda makes you want to own some Mickey Mouse outfit, doesn't it., Cisco Systems [Ticker: CSCO ; Industry: Networking & Communication Devices ] Cisco makes most of the routers that actually make this whole internet thing work.

Wednesday: The big event Wednesday is the announcement from the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee on the target federal funds rate. To the extent there is a consensus after the confusion over Ben Bernanke's statements, the market seems to be expecting at least one more quarter point rate increase. The U.S. Treasury Department will release federal budget figures for April. The Energy Information Administration's weekly petroleum data summary and This Week in Petroleum newsletter come out Wednesday. The report issued on the 3rd moved markets with an unexpected increase in gasoline inventories; markets will certainly be watching that number closely. The weekly Mortgage Applications Survey from the Mortgage Bankers Association comes out Wednesday, shedding light on the housing market with current market interest rates and numbers of new mortgage applications.

Wednesday Treasury Schedule: No Treasury auctions or announcements scheduled.

Wednesday Earnings: Toyota Motor Corp [Ticker: TM ; Industry: Auto Manufacturers - Major ] Still instructive to look at Toyota's results compared to Ford and GM., Boston Beer Company [Ticker: SAM ; Industry: Beverages - Brewers ] You know them better as “Samuel Adams.”

Thursday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 3-Month T-Bill Announcement, 6-Month T-Bill Announcement; 1 PM Eastern 10-Year Note Auction

Thursday Earnings: NVIDIA Corporation [Ticker: NVDA ; Industry: Semiconductor - Specialized ] I just installed one of their video cards in my computers. 256MB devoted to graphics. My first computer had 8k of RAM.
