The Week Ahead: Your Financial Road Map for June 26 to 30, 2006

Each of the upcoming economic indicators will be linked in this post as they become available. See more general information at the end of this post to help you follow these releases as they come out through the week.

Monday: Commerce Department will release New Home Sales figures for May [Up 4.6%]. The Conference Board will release leading and coincident indexes for Germany [Leading: up 0.3 percent; Coincident: Unchanged].

Monday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Announcement; 1 PM Eastern 3-Month and 6-Month T-Bill Auctions

Monday Earnings: Walgreen Co [Ticker: WAG ; Industry: Drug Stores ], Lexington Corporate Properties Trust [Ticker: LXP ; Industry: REIT - Diversified] a self-managed and self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT)

Tuesday: The National Association of Realtors will release the Existing Home Sales for May [Down 1.2%]. The Conference Board will release its Consumer Confidence Index for June [Up 1 point] and Indexes of leading and coincident indicators for Australia [Leading: Up 0.3 percent; Coincident: Up 0.1 percent].

Tuesday Treasury Schedule: 1 PM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Auction and 2-Year Note Auction

Tuesday Earnings: Nike Inc [Ticker: NKE ; Industry: Textile - Apparel Footwear & Accessories ]

Wednesday: Wednesday opens the two day monetary policy meeting of the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee, with no announcements expected until Thursday. The third housing market statistic of the week is the weekly Mortgage Market Survey from the Mortgage Bankers Survey [Applications Down; Rates Up]. The Energy Department will release its weekly petroleum status summary and This Week in Petroleum [Total inventories up 0.6 million barrels].

Wednesday Treasury Schedule: 1 PM Eastern 5-Year Note Auction

Wednesday Earnings: MCCORMICK AND CO [Ticker: MKC ; Industry: Processed & Packaged Goods ]

Thursday: We'll get two jobs market indicators as the Conference Board issues its report on Help Wanted Advertising [Down 5%] and the Labor Department releases its weekly report on Jobless Claims [Up 4,000]. The Commerce Department will release revised figures for the first quarter GDP and Corporate Profits [both revised upward]. Of course, the big news for Thursday will be the interest rate decision of the Federal Open Market Committee [Raised 0.25%].

Thursday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 3-Month and 6-Month T-Bill Announcements

Thursday Earnings: General Mills Inc [Ticker: GIS ; Industry: Food - Major Diversified ] General Mills is a major employer in southwest Missouri, PALM INC [Ticker: PALM ; Industry: Computers Wholesale ], Monsanto Co [Ticker: MON ; Industry: Agricultural Chemicals ]

Friday: The Commerce Department will report on Personal Consumption and Income for May [Real disposable income unchanged;real consumption up 0.1%].

Friday Treasury Schedule: 2-Year and 5-Year Note Settlement

Friday Earnings: Nothing of interest announced.

The earnings releases listed are companies I've chosen because of their industries, because of market capitalization (the size of the company), because they have local plants in my area or for various other reasons of general interest. Please do not take these as a “recommendation” of any sort. That I list them here simply means that I think the results may be interesting for any number of reason - I may occasionally even choose companies where I expect negative results.
