The Week Ahead: Your Financial Road Map for July 3 to 7, 2006
For each of the upcoming financial items with the exception of Treasury auctions and announcements the brief results will be added to this post along with a link to the full results as they become available. See more general information at the end of this post to help you follow these releases as they come out through the week.
Monday: The Commerce Department will release Construction Spending figures for May [Down 0.4%]. The Institute for Supply Management (formerly the National Association of Purchasing Managers) will issue its Manufacturing Report on Business [Manufacturing economy growing] which includes the Purchasing Managers Index [53.8]. Major US auto manufacturers typically report their previous months sales on the first business day of each month.
Monday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Announcement and 3-Month T-Bill Auction; 11:30 AM Eastern 6-Month T-Bill Auction.
Monday Earnings: No US earnings reports scheduled.
Tuesday: No indicators will be released due to US Independence Day.
Tuesday Treasury Schedule: Federal holiday.
Tuesday Earnings: US Federal holiday.
Wednesday: The Commerce Department will report on Factory Orders for May [Up 0.7%]. The Mortgage Bankers Association will release the results of the weekly Mortgage Applications Survey, which includes average mortgage rates and number of new mortgage applications [Applications increased, rates mixed].
Wednesday Treasury Schedule: 1 PM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Auction
Wednesday Earnings: None of interest announced.
Thursday: The day will start with monthly monetary policy announcements from the Bank of England and the European Central Bank [Both unchanged]. The Energy Information Administration's weekly petroleum data summary and This Week in Petroleum will be issued on Thursday this week due to the holiday [Crude oil inventories down 2.4 million barrels; Total petroleum inventories up 0.3 million barrels]. The Institute for Supply Management will release its Non-manufacturing Report on Business [Business Activity/Production Index at 57]. Two job market indicators come out Thursday with the weekly Jobless Claims report from the Labor Department [down 2,000] and the Monster Employment Index [Up 2.4%]. The National Association of Realtors will release the Pending Home Sales Index, a leading indicator for home sales, for May [Up 1.3 Percent].
Thursday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 3-Month and 6-Month T-Bill Announcements.
Thursday Earnings: LAIDLAW INTL INC [Ticker: LI ; Industry: Consumer Services ], UAP HOLDING CORP [Ticker: UAPH ; Industry: Agricultural Chemicals ]
Friday: The Labor Department will issue the employment situation report for June [121,000 new jobs, unemployment unchanged at 4.6%, hourly earnings up 8 cents].
Friday Treasury Schedule: 3 PM Eastern Treasury STRIPS
Friday Earnings: Nothing interesting.

The earnings releases listed are companies I've chosen because of their industries, because of market capitalization (the size of the company), because they have local plants in my area or for various other reasons of general interest. Please do not take these as a “recommendation†of any sort. That I list them here simply means that I think the results may be interesting for any number of reason - I may occasionally even choose companies where I expect negative results.
