The Week Ahead: Your Financial Road Map for July 10 to 14, 2006

Monday: The week opens with three indicators - Wholesale trade for May from the Commerce Department [Up 1.6%]; the G.19 Consumer Credit release from the Federal Reserve Bank [Up 2.5%] and leading and coincident indicators for Japan from the Conference Board [Leading down 0.4%; Coincident up 0.1%].
Monday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill and 10-Year TIPS [Treasury Inflation Protected Securities] announcements; 1 PM Eastern 3-Month and 6-Month T-Bill Auctions
Monday Earnings: ALCOA Inc [Ticker: AA ; Industry: Aluminum]; WD 40 CO [Ticker: WDFC ; Industry: Specialty Chemicals ]
Tuesday: The Bank of Canada will make a monetary policy announcement [No change].
Tuesday Treasury Schedule: 1 PM Eastern 4-Week T-Bill Auction
Tuesday Earnings: Genentech Inc [Ticker: DNA ; Industry: Biotechnology ]; RUBY TUESDAY INC [Ticker: RI ; Industry: Restaurants ]
Wednesday: Two international indicators come out Wednesday with the Conference Board releasing leading and coincident indicators for Korea [Leading Up 0.5%; Coincident Up 0.2%] and the Commerce Department reporting on US International Trade for May [Deficit up 0.6%; Imports up 1.8%; Exports up 2.4%]. Housing market watchers get their only indicator of the week with the Mortgage Bankers Association weekly Mortgage Applications Survey [Purchase applications Up 2.6%]. The Department of Energy weekly petroleum data summary and This Week in Petroleum is back to its regular Wednesday schedule after last week's holiday [Crude inventories down 1.8%].

Wednesday Earnings: COMMERCE BCSHS [Ticker: CBSH ; Industry: Regional - Southwest Banks ]; Mercantile Bank Corp [Ticker: MBWM ; Industry: Regional - Midwest Banks ] Appparently Missouri is conflicted...Midwest or Southwest? Both Commerce and Mercantile have strong presence in southwest Missouri.
Thursday: The Conference Board will report on leading and coincident indicators for United Kingdom [Leading down 0.2%;coincident up 0.1%]. The US Department of Treasury will release the Federal Budget statement for June. Job market watchers get one new statistic this week in the Weekly Jobless Claims report from the Employment and Training Administration of the Department of Labor.
Thursday Treasury Schedule: 11 AM Eastern 3-Month and 6-Month T-Bill Announcements; 1 PM Eastern 10-Year TIPS Auction
Thursday Earnings: Investors Financial Services Corp [Ticker: IFIN ; Industry: Asset Management ]; PEPSICO INC [Ticker: PEP ; Industry: Beverages - Soft Drinks ]
Friday: Bureau of Labor Statistics will issue Import/Export Price Indexes for June [Import Prices Up 0.1%; Export Up 0.8%]. The Commerce Department will release Retail Sales for June and Business Inventories for May [Retail Sales Down 0.1%; Trade and Manufacturing Sales Up 1.4%]. The Consumer sentiment survey from University of Michigan's Consumer Survey Center is due out Friday.
Friday Treasury Schedule: None
Friday Earnings: Sensient Technologies Corp [Ticker: SXT ; Industry: Specialty Chemicals ]; General Electric Co [Ticker: GE ; Industry: Conglomerates ]

The earnings releases listed are companies I've chosen because of their industries, because of market capitalization (the size of the company), because they have local plants in my area or for various other reasons of general interest. Please do not take these as a “recommendation†of any sort. That I list them here simply means that I think the results may be interesting for any number of reason - I may occasionally even choose companies where I expect negative results.
