The Week Ahead: Your Financial Roadmap for September 18 to September 22, 2006
With the International Monetary Fund reporting last week that the US housing market could slow US and global economic growth, the Federal Reserve tightrope act got serious attention. IMF noted that the Fed «faces a difficult situation of rising inflation in a slowing economy, but given the importance of keeping inflation expectations in check, some further policy tightening may still be needed,» while “a sharp adjustment in the housing sector would generate strong headwinds for the U.S. Economyâ€. This week brings a Federal Open Market Committee meeting (Wednesday) and important indications of how the Fed will walk that tightrope in the form of wholesale inflation figures and important housing market indicators, the National Association of Home Builders Housing Market Index and the Housing Starts for August.
The week will open with three international economic indicators, the US current account for the second quarter, the Treasury Capital Flows for July and economic indicator indexes for Spain.

The earnings releases listed are companies I've chosen because of their industries, because of market capitalization (the size of the company), because they have local plants in my area or for various other reasons of general interest. Please do not take these as a “recommendation†of any sort. That I list them here simply means that I think the results may be interesting for any number of reason - I may occasionally even choose companies where I expect negative results.
