The Week Ahead: Your Financial Roadmap for December 11 to December 15, 2006

Two big events of the week:

Tuesday is Federal Open Market Day - the Federal Open Market Committee for the Federal Reserve Bank will meet and announce a decision on interest rate targets.

Friday is Quadruple Witching Day - when contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, stock options, and single stock futures (SSF) all expire, and could see considerable price volatility. Quadruple Witching occurs every 3rd Friday of March, June, September and December. The more commonly heard “Triple Witching” refers to the last hour of the day when the expiration of the stock index futures, stock index options and stock options occurs, making it one of the most predictably volatile one-hour periods each quarter. The irony of “predictably volatile” has been duly noted.

The earnings releases listed are companies I've chosen because of their industries, because of market capitalization (the size of the company), because they have local plants in my area or for various other reasons of general interest. Please do not take these as a “recommendation” of any sort. That I list them here simply means that I think the results may be interesting for any number of reason - I may occasionally even choose companies where I expect negative results.
